Shlomo (beat boxer and artist in residence at South Bank Centre presents/performs with) Martha Wainwright & Teddy Thompson - Queen Eliz Hall **** Some jamming and stuff. Good.

Nov
Rough Justice - White Horse Maidenhead **** Rock covers done very well.
Good Men in the Jungle - Grey Horse Kingston ***½ Always reliable Country sounds and generally good vibes from Grey Horse regulars.

October
Rush - Wembley Arena *** Hadn’t seem this lot since NEC ‘82. Not bad!
Robin Nolan - Woodcote Village Hall ***½ Gypsy jazz guitar from George Harrison’s Amsterdam-based chum. Good.
Barb Jungr sings Dylan - Blackheath Concert Halls **** Excellent.

The Smyths - Half Moon Putney **** Top notch tribute band.
Martin Stephenson and the Daintees - Jazz Café ***** Boat to Bolivia album recital
Gossip - Forum Kentish Town. ***½ Sweaty, frenzied and quite good.

August
Rhythm Festival, an air field near Bedford:-
Joe Bonamassa *** Flash young blues rock guitarist. Hackneyed but good.
Eddie and the Hot Rods ***½ Played “Do anything you wanna do”. Obv excellent.
Prince Buster ** A bit insipid.
Seth Lakeman ** A bit insipid.
Steve Harley ½ Boring, tiresome, arrogant and pretentious.
The Yardbirds *** Quite good.
Dr John **** Awesome.
Levellers **** Good visceral stuff.

Station House ***1/2 Always reliable Surrey pub circuit blues-funkers
Cryin Out Loud * Quo-esque boogie merchants. Poor.
Nicky Moore’s Blues Corporation *** Super-solid blues-rock.
West Weston’s Bluesonics ***1/2 Ex Big Town Playboy fronting super-slick outfit.
The Animals and Friends ½ Truly awful.

John Martyn - Albert Hall * Tired & emotional, sad to say. Dreadful acoustics.
Who’s Next - The Swan, Arborfield, Berks *** Who covers done competently enough.

March
Rough Justice - Red Lion, Twickenham ***1/2 Awesome rock covers band.
Barb Jungr - New Greenham Arts, Newbury *** Filming a video. Weaker material than the Dylan shows.
Thea Gilmore - South Hill Park, Bracknell ***1/2 Over-earnest but tuneful folkie
The Baghdaddies - South Hill Park, Bracknell ***1/2 Balkan gypsy with Middle East flavours, shades of klezmer and tango, jazz and reggae plus a touch of ska. Nice.

Hawksley Workman - Borderline, London **** Not the best HW gig but an easy ****
Songs of Nick Drake - Keith James - Regal Picturehouse Cinema, Henley ** A bit thin.
